Coat type
Short, medium, long and double coats each behave differently under a dryer and a clipper, and each takes its own amount of time.
Coat condition
Matting, tangles and a long gap since the last groom all add time, and a severely matted coat sometimes means a shorter clip than you had in mind.
Age and health
Older dogs, and dogs with skin conditions, sore joints or other health needs, are worked more slowly and more gently.
